This coming week in Phuket

Luck, Love and Enlightenment

Sunday 10th is Chinese New Year.  The Year of the Snake, a time to get your red dresses out or at least wear some article of red to bring luck. Many restaurants are offering Chinese New Year special menus but for the authentic experience head to Phuket old Town, the original Chinese Quarter and World Heritage Site.  Authentic Chinese restaurants include the White Palm at Royal Phuket City Hotel and Fortuna Pavilion at the Metropole Hotel.  Siam Indigo on Phang Nga road will be offering some wonderful Asian Fusion dishes for those looking for something a little different.

Thursday 14th is Valentine’s Day and this time red is the colour of love and a date when most of Phuket’s best restaurants and beach clubs will be putting on something special for that romantic evening.  Mom Tri’s Kitchen in Kata Noi and Dedos on the entrance road leading to the Laguna both have wonderfully aphrodisiacal menus to celebrate Valentine’s Day priced reasonably at 2,200 baht and 1,900 baht respectively. Plum Fine Dining at Cape Sienna also has a romantic Valentine’s Day menu.  Smooch the night away at Catch Beach Club on Surin Beach or Xana Beach Club on Bangtao  Beach.

Monday 25th is Makha Bucha Day, which falls on the full moon of the third lunar month, celebrates the Buddha’s ordaining of 1,250 monks who suddenly arrived just seven months after the Buddha began his teachings.  On this date the Buddha delivered his Fundamental Teachings only months before his death. Makha Bucha Day is a national holiday. Perhaps on this austere day a time for some soul searching so why not take a relaxing spa and massage at one of Phuket’s best spas; maybe one of the Oasis Spas in Kata, Kamala and the Laguna or the Royal Spas in and around Phuket, the Senses Spa in Cherngtalay offers a wide selection of treatments or for a traditional Thai massage try Kim’s in Phuket Town, inexpensive but professional.
